Upward Housing Launches Glendale Healing Housing Program
A fully renovated and modern 36-bed facility in Glendale offering recuperative care is the latest Los Angeles County property obtained by Upward Housing to serve people at risk for homelessness.
The facility serves people in need of housing and a place to recover after undergoing medical care. Once discharged from a hospital, patients will be able to convalesce in this facility with the support they need to recover.
Upward Housing, a local organization that sources, identifies, and obtains properties to help at-risk populations, purchased, rehabilitated, and prepared the physical grounds of the Glendale property. Upward Housing partnered on the project with the National Health Foundation, the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathyrn Barger.
The National Health Foundation Glendale Housing for Health Program highlights how various partner agencies can successfully collaborate to develop meaningful solutions for those at risk for homelessness. Upward Housing joined other partners in February to celebrate the facility’s opening.
The recuperative care housing program is staffed around the clock by nurses and other medical professionals, along with social workers who will assist the residents during their recovery. Upward Housing serves as a connector between those at-risk for homelessness and government agencies, private foundations, and service providers who can offer assistance.
Kelly Bruno, the chief executive officer for the National Health Foundation, praised the Glendale housing program as a local partnership that helps serve communities working to remove barriers to health. Joining Bruno for the opening of the facility were Barger, Glendale Mayor Paula Devine, and Glendale Councilmembers Ara Najarian and Vrej Agajanian.
Upward Housing partners with government agencies, private foundations, and providers like the National Health Foundation to find and purchase properties to serve these at-risk individuals.
Upward Housing connects with service providers that offer support programs for the at-risk homeless population recovering in recuperative housing. The providers use the facility as a central place to bring together all of the support programs designed to assist the at-risk homeless in a whole-person approach to their care.
Upward Housing partners with private foundations that provide financial support in the form of needed gifts, money for programs, and equipment that can serve the at-risk population. These private foundations fill the gaps left when government funding falls short in the effort.
Upward Housing enlists the collaboration of government agencies that can access money from federal, state, county, and city programs to serve the at-risk population. Qualified service providers receive government funding in awards granted to serve the population.
